The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Roald Dahl
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar was the first “adult” book I remember reading. It’s a story about greed, spirituality, money, mysticism, and cards. It absolutely shaped my entire view of the world and made me want to be a writer. Of course now we know Roald Dahl wasn’t exactly a big fan of the Jewish people. As a born-and-raised Brooklyn Jew, myself, it’s a tough call. But I’m giving old Roald’s books the pass and we’re gonna look the other way.
